Video games are a wildly popular pastime, and out of all the video games on the market, the Grand Theft Auto franchise, often shortened to GTA, is responsible for some of the most sought-after titles of all. In fact, Grand Theft Auto V is coming out in the not-so-distant future, which means that there has been a surge in players of GTA IV, along with related nostalgia and excitement. One illustration of such a phenomenon is this GTA 4 theme.
This particular Grand Theft Auto IV theme is fan-made, though it doesn't suffer for it. In terms of graphics, this theme holds its own very well. It is dominated by the sun, which is setting over the water, illuminating a man - presumably the game's player-controlled protagonist, Niko Bellic - and his car, both of which are wrapped in shadow. The man waits for something, or someone, as he stands on the docks, peering into the trunk of his car. In the background, a city skyline can be seen. It provides a backdrop which is at once glitzy and cold, fitting in with this theme's almost noir atmosphere. Clearly, the theme is designed to make you feel like you're in the world of Grand Theft Auto, and as long as you don't let the lack of truly professional studio graphics distract you, because again, this theme is fan-made, it does a pretty good job.
That said, this theme does have both pluses and minuses, which you can read about below.
Pros
All in all, this is a solid, well-done theme. It has a very noir feel, and can really put you in that GTA frame of mind. It's also very easy to install, and it's free!
Cons
The sunset, while lovely, bathes everything in a sort of melted butter tone. This can sometimes make things hard to read.
Visual issues aside, this theme warrants at least a look, if not a full download, from all GTA fans.
